We have to convince both the muslim women and their surroundings that we have the ability and will to accomplish our goals. As muslim women we are often confronted by the idea that we are weak, helpless victims, who need constant care and coddling. This notion of muslim women as incompetent is not just offensive and disparaging to our common humanity, it also reinforces prejudice in both the muslim and the non-muslim community. When you numerous times are told that are unable to do this or that, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. When you are not praised and acknowledged for your accomplishments, it is easy to give up. The struggle becomes too hard.
We aim to create ways for Muslim Women Music Makers to express themselves, in ways of their choosing.
We do not expect to change the world, at least not overnight, but we aim to make a difference.
